2 marketing punch. This is quite easy to do with the right software
setup.
Still, we have to return to database techniques to understand how this
works. Your eBay Store is just a database of the items you sell. From
your existing data for eBay you can extract a subset of data for the
Froogle data feed. Go to http://froogle.google.com/froogle/merchants.
html for detailed information. If you operate your own database
system for your eBay business, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
Otherwise, don’t worry about it. Your auction management service (or
software) will include a Froogle data feed feature soon, if it doesn’t
already. Even eBay’s own auction management services may eventually
include a Froogle data feed feature (pure speculation). Regardless,
one way or another, you can use your eBay Store as a website and
index it to Froogle with little extra effort or expense and thereby easily
tap into a vast marketplace that may be larger than eBay itself. Opportunities
like this don’t come along often.
If you operate an independent website and use ecommerce software
for a catalog, shopping cart, and checkout, your software vendor
should include a feature in the future to make a Froogle data feed. For
instance, FASTFEED is a Miva Merchant plug-in for Froogle.
Unfortunately, to give details on the specifics of exactly how to do this
Froogle thing is premature. Froogle is still in beta. We don’t know how
eBay will ultimately react. We don’t know what roadblocks might
materialize, if any. And if roadblocks do appear, we’re not sure what
the work-arounds will be. That’s why this information is in an addendum.
But it seems clear now that one way or another, as an eBay seller
you will be able to substantially increase (double?) your marketplace
soon. By the time you read this book, some of these issues—unresolved
at the time this book went to print—will have been resolved.
